That is an odd one oldmike.I've gone back and forth between an AU and yours and can't figure what has caused this. I went through hundreds of this series back in 2000 ,looking for errors, but never came across anything like this. Hope someone can shine some light on this.

They minted a whole series of special quarters in 2000 and that's the way that one of them. It is exactly the way that it was designed, but the thing/design going across the fish's nose is something that I can't ID..

okie coiner take a good look at the beaded ribbon running through the fish head. That is not as originally minted.

Looks like a bit of glue or epoxy on the coin...

A little acetone will remove most glue if it is glue.

I don't understand the worm comment and if someone went to great length to alter this why would they put it into circulation as near as I can tell the coin was struck over what ever this is

It also runs through the top row of raindrops to the A of NATURAL.

Yes I see that and the more I magnify it I'm sure the reverse is struck over whatever that image is I will try and take some more photos

First of all I must eat my words, and then say a big Thank You to the members who pointed out the glue and epoxy thing. I was able to get much higher magnification and it did look strange . I took some plastic tools and was able to remove a bit so I went to work and it all did come off It was a total dud. I received that coin in my change from a grocery store at least ten years ago and would have been extremely embarrassed had I given it to my Grandson Thanks again

Error coins are always good experiences in learning something new... glad you resolved it.
