So my boyfriend collects coins, currently just the recent ones, and he likes them circulated so of course I can look through his collection but I'm going to be honest I don't have his passion so don't know what he would get excited over!
I've looked into taking him to a collectors show with stalls so my question is Birmingham or York?
And which magazine is a good choice?
And does anyone else have any gift ideas?
Thanks in advance! :)

Birmingham show is every month as is wakefield although not December.
York is only twice a year and think the next one is Jan.
The only coin magazine is by token publishing Coin news and a monthly magazine that can be bought by subscription.
The new Spink book due out in december 2017 edition would be a good buy.
As far as everything else would leave well alone as coin collectors are weird LOL.

As someone who has been bought coins, it's really hard to know what to get other people. My father has bought the same coin three times over a period of years. He doesn't know what to look for. My suggestion would be not to bother, buy something else, either that or ask him what he wants.

Personally, I think a subscription to a coin magazine is a great idea!

The Spink books are excellent, very detailed, but also fairly expensive.
A good smaller/cheaper alternative is the Coin Yearbook 2017 from Token Publishing, £9.95. It lists all major varieties, is easy to carry to coin fairs, and I suggest, is easier to follow than Spink. But if you want the detail on coin varieties, Spink is the way to go.

Coin news is an excellent magazine, the girlfriend gets me a yearly subscription as part of a Christmas present, Spink is also good, so if he doesn't have one then it would be a must have and at £25 it is good value. Personally I wouldn't want anyone buying me a coin if they have no clue about them, best leaving that to the collector, you could also offer to pay for one of his own choice.....
