It is definitely a religious medal. I cannot quite make out the letters - could be in Latin.

One side shows a saint (halo) blessing another person. Could be Jesus blessing his Mother - since the letters VM might mean Virgin Mary. But the Saint looks more like St. Peter.

The other side is definitely Christ, since he is surrounded by a Mandorla.

I think this could be a ducat from Venice instead of a religious medal. On the second image S.Mark is depicted: S(anctus) M(arcus) VENET(i)and the Doge kneeling before St. Mark. I cannot read his name.

Obv: St. Marco stands right blessing Doge, long staff with cross between
Rev: Christ standing facing, 16 stars around
Weight: 3.4 grm
Diameter: 20 mm diameter (little larger than a US Quarter)
