So I've been told on this forum that using those little plastic bags to store coins will actually harm them due to PVC residue.
Is this true?
Because if so, I'm going to be having fun restoring hundreds of coins D:

Yes, PVC, the plastisizer will damage the surface of coins, or any metal item, kept inside for a period of time.
Once the plastisizer migrates out of the plastic it becomes a gummy sticky substance that will turn coins green and corrode the surfaces of the coin.

What should I store the coins in then?

PVC will damage coins, polyethelene bags as shown in your other post contain no PVC.

It is so terribly cheap to just get 2X2's or coin holders that it's just silly not to use them, unless you really don't care about the coins you keep.

Once you have seen really bad PVC damage, you might be very concerned about how you store your coins. Some of the worse damage I have seen were coins in the old Harco albums.
It is best to use modern coin approved holder. I have had coins in the same 2X2 holders with no problems.

OR you could simply put them all in a can and cover with concrete. OR send all to me and I'll worry about it. 2x2 flips are probably the most common items used.

Yes, I'm a big fan of 2X2 white envelopes, possibly using a cloth insert pocket if the value warrants.

Yes. I have several coins that were ruined by PVC damage. I have a few that just had residue and could be cleaned. It's not a short term thing. It usually takes more than a few years. I've seen coins that have been in PVC plastic for 30+ years and have been fine, and others that have been damaged in the same time. You can get into the nuances of it all, but it's best just to avoid the situations.
