I was browsing V coins and was initially taken with a crude imitation of a Venetian ducat. Price was a bit high, but not overly so, and then I read the description fully.

If the seller is correct then a coin imitating a Ducat struck in 1763-1778AD is very unlikely to be a crusader states issue. I may be wrong but I would have thought Crusader states no longer existed in the 18th century.

Assuming I am right: I really don't think the seller is trying to deceive anyone I just think their description is indicative of either a very serious mistake or a paucity of knowledge. Either way I would want to do a lot of research on any item I considered purchasing from this seller.

Alvice Mocenigi IV coins did imitate the earlier types, but you are correct that the Crusader States did not exist at that time. So the title is a misnomer. This is not a medieval coin.

Didn't know that but the coin looks very much like a Levantine struck imitation.

BTW was it really appropriate to move it out of the other area of the Forum?
