I am a low budget collector, just trying to build a decent set of circulated coins. I am not in a position financially to purchase every variety of Large Cent ever minted, so I have limited myself to following the Red Book and adding a few extra varieties along the way. I particularly have an interest in overdate coins. I call these transition pieces as they often bridge the gap between two different years. For example, I purchased a very low grade 1798/7 to bridge the dates 1797 and 1798. This was a no brainer because it was described in the Red Book. However, I discovered that there are other relatively unknown overdates out there worth collecting. For example 1849 N-8, which is the 9 over 8 variety. What I wanted to know is if anyone could give me a list of some other overdates that might not be listed in the Red Book. I just happened to run across this one by accident, and was wondering how many more exist. Thanks.

You might take a look at NGC's Variety Plus listings https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-varieties/ to see if there are others listed by them but not in the Red Book.

Large cent overdates are not an area I'm versed in however there are several large cent variety pros here at CCF that may be able to chime in with a better answer.

I don't think you have to apologize for limiting yourself to " RedBook varieties with a few extra along the way." That would be an awesome variety collection. But, I'd be willing to bet you can't stop there when you get there! Because most of these people said or thought similar things!
