Since I'm not well-versed in oriental coinage, I'm hoping that someone here will be able to identify these oriental coins. From the appearance, they look to me to be cast copies. I know there is a way to tell in the designs, but I don't know enough to be able to identify the points myself. Once I have enough information, I'll report these listings. Here is the link to the auctions, sorted by newly listed. Just scroll down and you will be able to tell from the gallery pic which auctions I'm talking about. Thanks for your help. Oriental Cast Copies?

From the couple of pics that I looked at these don't look cast to me. I can see no lines on the edge of the coins. Now, I have no idea if these are real or not, but with the auction being private, I would worry.

I have been working on this seller for the last 2 months. I have succeeded in getting about 15 auctions pulled at different times, but ebay has ceased acting on reports for the past 2 weeks. She is the one that is commonly referred to as the "Savannah Scammer". Last month she purchased a lot of Polish coins and tried to resell them as Colonial Silver found in Savannah. I was able to get all 6 of those pulled because I also sent the original auction to ebay that she purchased. The advent of yet another Coins/Collectibles manager who doesn't know anything about the material has halted any action that the CCW was taking on her auctions. I felt that the surfaces of these coins did not appear to be silver and looked to be artificially toned (like many of the Asian counterfeits that we have been seeing). However, I am not sure enough to be able to report these without some confirmation.

Having followed your attempts and especially this "known" seller, I would venture to guess that these are fakes. The early Asian coins are so hard to spot though. I have no idea how to spot the originals from the fakes. I would rely on the seller in this particular situation. Why should this time be any different? Have you questioned ebay about why they allow this person to continue?

If I report these auctions without concrete reasons why I believe they are fake, there will definitely be no action taken. With a detailed explanation, I think there will be a better chance to have them pulled. As far as contacting them: For a while, they were taking action, so I figured it would just take a little time, especially with the change in ebay policy. I have sent some communications in the past couple of weeks but I'm not getting any response. The new "manager" is training right now. According to her, she needs to learn about ebay AND the Coins category. She said that she is in meetings now and is hoping to attend a trade show. I guess that will make her an expert. They put someone in this position with absolutely no experience and no credentials. I've already made a stink about this on the ebay discussion boards. ebay is notorious for continuously moving people around regardless of their experience (or lack thereof). I expect to start getting results again in about a month. That should give the scammers time to get their ducks in a row and make a tidy little profit in the interim. Short of going to California and meeting someone face-to-face, there probably isn't a way to force action through ebay. I'm putting together some information and plan to contact Jeff Starck at Coin World to see how he feels about doing a follow-up to his last story. That might get them off their butts!

Susan, Push the ANA. You may get them to put a little weight to your side of the effort. Write a very detailed letter explaining the stance that ebay has taken or lack there of, and send it to each of the ANA govenors. Explain to them that their agreement with ebay gives the impression that their name is being linked to the bad as well as the good. Afterall, the ANA is supposed to be our leader in this hobby.

For what it's worth I agree with ND on these. They don't appear to be casts. However know the minting process of the times I believe the coins are fake. Just my opinion.

They appeared fake to me but I can't put my finger on why, so reporting them is not going to be an option. Without specific reasons, there is no hope of getting a result. I'm putting together a letter for the ANA though. I know if I were them, I wouldn't want my organization associated with not taking action on fraudulent coins.

For anyone who is interested, here is a link to some information on the Savannah Scammer. Ripoff ReportStarting today, she has added the word "copy" to some of her auctions. Small improvement, but someone must be putting some pressure on her.

This one and another she has running for a silver round were both reported within 5 hours after listing. Additional reports wouldn't hurt. The link to report her is a sticky topic in this section. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Report". There is a section to enter the auction numbers and a section for an explanation. Then click submit. Very quick and easy.
