From time to time Texas Republic notes show up at the auction house. And from what I notice allot of them are punched or redeemed. One time a 50 dollar note was on the table and it was not redeemed. To me I kinda feel that it would be difficult for a note to not be redeemed especially considering how much 50 dollars was worth back then? In other words fake.

Is this a valid concern?

In addition are unredeemed notes worth more than redeemed ones?

Thank you in advance

A valid question.

I would try to get familiar with genuine notes. This would make spotting a fake easier, or only buy graded notes that have been authenticated.

Unredeemed notes, or REMAINDERS usually are worth less than signed notes.

You can always check Crutch Williams's website with serial numbers to see if they are bogus. His website has listings for known counterfeit serial numbers for both Confederate notes and Republic of Texas notes.
