This coin? Token? appears to be milled not cast it is very high quality work. While it looks like bronze the weight is too high (5.0 grams) it is 26mm in diameter. One of the symbols is very much the same as Mag (Obv @ bottom) on coins from Vietnam. It has the number "1" on reverse so appears to be denominated some how. On the Obverse a very small counter-stamp on the edge at 2:00 may be a hallmark or makers mark? Any help or suggestions would be very welcome!

@worldweird, first welcome to CCF. Second, that is definitely a weird piece that you have there. This isn't really my area of collecting, but I haven't ever seen anything like this. I agree not cast (as normal cash of China was), but rather all those little annulets were punched in by hand. This thing must have taken forever to make. Also, it is holed (for wearing?) despite having the central hole. Thanks for posting it!

Just a guess here, but this seems more like jewelry than a coin. I await our experts to sign on and give their more learned opinions.

Very interesting. It is a token/amulet/charm of some sort as this was hand-made or hand-altered from a coin. You say the weight is heavy, but is it any thicker than normal? It could be lead in that case, but the color does not look like lead.

I think it is very pretty.

Hello to post replies

Yes indeed the idea this is a charm, or for wearing as a pendant seems quite reasonable. In looking very close in hand this coin appears to be hand engraved rather than struck. The coin is about 1 mm thick and I am sure it is silver with maybe a gold wash that has suffered some loss over time. Likely is patterned after a cash coin but the writing has some meaning but sure is lost on me. Again thanks for the feedback at least I have a starting point.
