Can someone confirm whether these are copper, nickel, plated steel or otherwise? -1951 Big Nickel from Sudbury -1967 Big Penny from Sudbury -Ottawa/Winnipeg Token from RCM (Silver Color) -Ottawa/Winnipeg Token from RCM (Copper Color) -Ottawa/Winnipeg Token from RCM (Gold Color) -Various press-your-own RCM tokens that feature the Toonie, Loonie, Penny and Nickel designs Please help and thanks!

The Big Nickel came in three different sizes and nine different compositions but the most common are 38mm nickel or aluminum. I don't know of a 1967 Sudbury penny I have only the 1965 which came in copper or bronze or aluminum. Post a pic of your '67 please. Some good information about the Sudbury "coins" here; http://numicanada.com/forum/viewtop...948&start=30

I have tested them all with the XRF:
The Sudbury Big Nickel comes in both aluminum and copper-nickel alloy (it is not pure nickel, ironically) The Sudbury Penny comes in Cu-plated aluminum and Cu-plated copper-nickel (it is not bronze, ironically)
Ottawa/Winnipeg token comes in four finishes:
- Bronze - Nickel - gold-plated nickel - .500 silver
Apparently, the silver one was only available in a special four coin case. I have never seen the case, but I did buy a silver version a couple years ago - they are quite scarce. A magnet can be your friend at a coin show, if hunting in junk bins.

How many Big Nickels did you test? How many different varieties of Big Nickels did you test? I have read that the variety with LOMBARDO on obverse only was issued in the early 60's, made of pure nickel, and sold to help raise money for the construction of the big Big Nickel.

A small group... have you ever found one that was magnetic?

I'll have to go see if I can dig mine up and check. I never tested with a magnet as I believed the story. And the Numicanada discussion also points to nickel examples..

Well, there is an element of truth here, there _is_ some nickel in that coin... I think for coin dealers and collectors the following probably applied:
