Hi All!

I found my first 1 real cob on Saturday at this Spanish colonial site. It weighs 3.5 grams. Any feedback on the origin and time period would be appreciated!!

I hope the photos are clear enough. If not let me know and I'll take more.

What a great find! It looks to me like Ferdinand VI, a one real cob from the Potosi Mint, now in modern day Bolivia. The date appears to be 1751, although the decades digit could be a slightly different number no later than a "6" which would shift it under Charles III. The pillar and waves checkerboard has a clear denomination, mint mark, and two and a half of the three date digits. The cross side has a clear denomination only.

I have outlined in red where I think you see the "1751" is. Is this right, Pistareen?

Upon a lot of staring and asking other people, I believe the year is 1757.

I read that hammered coins started to peter out from 1730 on, so this must be one of the last years of Spanish cobs.
