I received my first of the new colorized $5 bills today and noticed something. It says that it is a series 2006. Hence my confusion. These bills were only released this year correct? Why then does it say 2006 and not 2008? Were they printed in 2006 only to be distributed now? Or is this a mistake? Are all bills like this (not really to be attributed to the year printed on the bill)?

I believe I read somewhere that the date on a bill only changes when one of the signees changes.

the above post is correct, they usually only change the date when the treasurer or the secretary of treasury changes
