I just joined.
I found a box of coins in an Antique desk my parents gave to me. Mostly Canadian coins ranging from:
1881 - 1960/70's
1 cent/50 cent/ Silver Dollars etc...

How can I find out their true value ?

Rest in Peace

To get a good feel for there value go to ebay and check the prices they coins you have are selling for. You can also purchase a book titled "The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins." This will give you a good start in the right direction. You may even be able to check the book out at your local library.

Hi Kirk and welcome to Coin Community!

For the truest market value, I would suggest searching the completed auctions on ebay. It will take some time, but at least you will know what the current market is paying for them. Make sure to take into account the sellers' feedback ratings, return policies, s/h charges, etc. These factors can all make a pretty big difference when it comes to final sale price.

As Catman suggested, the Charlton book is wonderful. It discusses all of the portrait variations also which make a difference in value. The book is not expensive and well worth owning if you have Canadian and/or Newfoundland coins.
