Its been a long time since Ive contributed to this forum - but now I am back. Hopefully I'm not too rusty.

Im having a big clean out in preparation to move and I cant really justify keeping such a big pile of coins around. So I'm going to cut back severely - I'm hoping to get rid of practically everything, probably keeping only 10 or so coins around.

Do you guys have any advice for getting rid of a large and varied collection simply? Or is my best bet ebay? Is there a dealer that would buy on bulk?

I have been thinking about my Atlantic Canada collection and cutting back to just tokens of New Brunswick. I am grouping by type (wooden nickels, dairy tokens etc.) and seeking out people that collect that stuff to sell in bulk for 1/3 the "piece it out" price.

What you could do is look at people who like Asia minor coins for example and try to sell all those coins to them, then all your Parthian to a parthian guy etc. That way you are selling in bulk plus selling in smaller lots.

Maybe piece them out on here? You have enough posts.

I would think ebay would be your best bet. Unidentified lots do fairly well for lower end coins with detail. Cull lots also do okay if you got a couple coins with detail mixed into the pill. I have no experience dealing with dealers buying, so I can't help there.

There are quite a few dealers that would buy bulk collections. However their offering price will reflect their time and effort to make any profit. ebay may be not be the best way. It all depends how quickly you want out. Also it depends what the value of the accumulation is. It also depends on the type of coins involved.

There are quite a few auction houses that accept coins on consignment. Even with their fees I think the coins would get higher prices and would be less work than selling on ebay.

back Ben.

I would try grouping a couple in similar lots and listing on ebay to get a feel for it.
Just a sampling at first to see what kind of traffic you get. Good Luck!
Rest in Peace

An honest opinion depends on the type of coins you are selling. The following suggestions are for the final cash in your pockets after all fees.

$100-300 coins in PCGS or NGC will best be sold on ebay, if you have the time, or Great Collections if you don't.

For classic type and classic commemoratives over $500, Heritage.

For 90% silver, right here.

For individual coins valued $25-100, right here.

For bulk, local dealers and avoid all the hours of hassle trying to sell coins less than $20 each.

Aside from the junk, which coins are you thinking about parting with?

The whole lot is going - from high grade late roman bronzes to barbarous minims. Highlights include:

An Alexander tet
An as struck Postumus Ant
Top grade Philip I SAECVLARES
Less pretty but still cool - 5 barbarous minims issued from the same mint

Ive started listing on ebay and ive contacted a couple of auction houses about more specialist items (high value stuff and a few rarities like my Leontius and Zenonis monograms).
