So The Royal Mint in the UK has been doing a lot of stuff to make some coins rare, now the Bank of England is doing the same thing, with 4 bank notes worth 50,000 pounds with some image that no one will see.

Was this the work of the Bank of England, or someone on their own. I read this as an engraver took 4 new bills, added his own work and spent them. Am I mistaken?

@Mayflower2020, I read the article, and that is exactly what happened. Furthermore, the 50,000 pounds quoted is purely speculation on the artist's part as to what someone may want to pay for them. Nobody, not the artist or the Bank of England included, has made an offer to purchase them.

I certainly would not pay that much.

Oh, I was mistaken, 50,000 then seems ridiculous.

@augsburger, it is more than ridiculous. Someone should learn to micro-engrave, then sell them for 5,000 pounds to break the monopoly...

It seems that there is no shortage of people who pay ridiculous prices for ridiculous things. When the fad wears off, the item will be worthless.
