Went on a little road trip today to an elementary school in a small town about 15 miles from the house.
Not a bad haul but some quarters would have been nice. All this bending is killing me...

nohope,
Tried my hand at metal detecting today. Messed around in the back yard a little bit and then decided to try an elementary school after seeing what kind of luck you keep having. I came up empty handed but thought of a few questions to ask you.
1 - Where does the largest concentration of your finds come from (i.e. play area, lawn, etc.)?
2 - Are most of your finds surface finds or do you have to do much digging?
3 - How deep are most of your finds?
4 - Got any other tips for me?

OK if the School has not been searched then you will find most stuff around the Jungle gym and swing sets.
If the school is searched on a regular basis then you are more likely to find stuff at the pickup area and the paths leading to the play area. There is always stuff around big trees just look for the patches where the grass has been worn away.
Play area stuff is normally in the top 2 inches in searched areas and in the top 6 inches on the grass and paths. I don't dig much anymore as I have pinpointing down pat I just use a screwdriver to flip out the coin. Practice with your detector pinpointing will save hours of dig time and make less impact on the area you are searching.
Go slow and and overlap your sweeps. Try to sweep in straight lines rather than curves as you will cover the ground better. No matter how may times an area has been searched there will always be some new stuff after a few days of school.

You've been hitting it pretty hard lately. Good finds. I can't believe you didn't find any quarters with that much change.
Every hunt I go on is a road trip. I have 2 schools that I look at that are just under 10 miles. The others I hit are 15 to 25 miles. But there are alot of them. I try to go to 3 to 5 schools or parks to make it worth the drive.
I know what you mean by the bending. I can tell I'm not as young as I once was.
