Picked up this medal yesterday, I thought it would go well
with my commemorative coins collection.

It is half dollar size.

I am curious if anyone has an opinion on when it was minted.

The 1935 date appears on the obverse. I think that this piece may have been listed as a "so-called half" but perhaps removed as I believe the series was gutted or "purified" in a newer book? The "so-called half dollar" series is an interesting one for collectors who are history lovers. I'm a fan of the original book by Hibbler-Kappan.

1934 or 35 would make sense. Does this weigh about the same as a regular half dollar?

If I remember correctly mine felt a little lighter than the old haves. The fussy purist can be such *sses at times getting their panties in a twist over the use of descriptions sort of reminds me of a certain president and "depends on what is means" or something to that effect.

Very nice GR58! IMO, the medal is a very nice complement to the Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar.

I did a little write-up on this piece a few years ago here on CCF; you might find it of interest: Oregon Trail Memorial Cousin
