I am working my my Lincoln Cent grading skills. I initially pegged this one as a F12. Looking for other opinions. Thanks

I agree with you grade on this one, mvc. I cannot tell for sure, but those spots on the reverse look like corrosion and I would include that in my grade. F-12 Corroded - Brown

The spot on the reverse is a blemish. If it were corroded, it would be all crusty.

I think the details of this cent are right on the F-15/VF-20 border.

According to some dealers, F-18 is a legitimate grade. If so, I'd call this "F-18 details with a reverse blemish."

master, I have found that if you take a corroded coin (green meanies), soak in acetone and then rub lightly with a q-tip, the green flakes off and what is left is a black blemish of sorts. Not saying that is what this is. With a loop or scope it is obvious but not from the pics. If it is just carbon spotting then no corrosion.

More, I am not suggesting that you should be rubbing on any coin with value. Over the years I have tried to figure out how to deal with the verdigris that shows up on coins by experimenting on old worthless ones. I have had no luck, but have learned a few things, mostly bad.

I could see VF20 but I originally went with F12 because I did not think there was enough separation of wheat lines. Plus I thought there was too much wear on the face to warrant VF20. But hey, that's why I posted it, to get other thoughts and opinions. I will have to post some more later on.

Thanks
