I'm a total newbie here - maybe this is nothing, but I thought this quarter looked odd. Or perhaps it's just badly worn... The letter "I" in In God We Trust appears to be missing and there's a few odd shapes here and there: Between the B and E in LIBERTY and this little "speck" behind the pony tail. A few other strange things that I can't be certain of. Could be my imagination, but it seems the number "17" is stamped just behind the head, a little bit under the Y... Or is this just weird scratches or wear and tear? Any thoughts or suggestions as to what this is are certainly welcome. I uploaded several images, or varying quality.

Thanks, cashflow. I was wondering if perhaps I should have posted this in the general US coins forum and not the errors subcategory... I'll wait and see, and if no one chimes in, I'll try that!

I can't see the number 17.
But, I can see the sheep head with the stitched nose just to right of the Y in Liberty.

to the forum!

The 17 you see is where the coin's surface has been scratched.

The missing digits are a result of grease, dirt, or other debris filling those parts of the die. This is known as a filled die error, not a highly sought after error, but an error all the same.

I see other odd markings on the surface, but from the images provided, I can't tell what it is, maybe glue or something else stuck to it?

Thank you, Claude. That sounds like a good and reasonable explanation! Nice to know there's a name for this - I'm just starting out here, learned a lot already. Cheers. Happy New Year!
