Ok guys, I've been thinking recently about collecting every coin dated 1993 that I could get my hands on as it was the year of my birth. I want both the uncirculated and proof versions but I would really love a collection of proof gold coins from all over the world. While I know that this is the U.S. coin forum, I would like your help in figuring out some of the low mintage coins from that year that would be really great to pick up. So just to be clear, I'm not just talking about U.S. coins but from everywhere around the world. Thanks!

The Red Book would be a good place to start; you can get an older edition for practically nothing, and every edition after 1996ish would have 1993 covered, at least for the sake of a checklist.

A P&D mint set and silver and regular proof sets are a good place to start. You can get all of that on ebay for probably less than $30. Other than that, I think there were commemorative half and dollar coins (I don't know those well enough to recall offhand), plus the bullion as you mentioned.

Are you looking for *everything* worldwide from 1993, or just precious metal?
Rest in Peace

If you have a LCS you may be able to pick up a used Krause World Coins that would list every denomination from every issuer. I'm betting there will be several hundred for you to find.

I'm looking for everything worldwide. I figure most of it would be cheap and easy and would be pretty cool to assemble all together.

Good way to learn some world geography along with any political change for countries with coinage in 1993 that are longer with us. I have started to collect world coins in my birth year with a focus on copper coins (I like copper) and with designs that appeal to me. I like US wheat cents, so it is interesting to see pennies & cents from other countries. Good luck with your collection.

You can sometimes spot some good deals if you cruise the proof/mint set listings on ebay:

(Be warned, that one will probably end in the $15-20 range)
