First off, it looks to me like this coin has tiny scratches all over it. Was this cleaned but the TPG missed it? Also if you look up the cert validation, there is no red toning on the coin. Could it have toned that much in the slab (or can you just not see the red toning from the NGC site)?

Did you mean to put pictures on this post? Those would certainly help anyone be able to make an intelligent comment regarding your questions.

Newest NGC slab which reduces chances of slab scratches.

What you are seeing is die polishing lines on the coin.

This is an exceptional coin as the 66 FT is tough to find and this one is well deserving of the grade.

As for the tone, I didn't take the time to look it up on NGC, but the toning is also exceptional. Most toning on this issue is black and brown and spotty.

I ended up settling for a 67 without FT which isn't worth a quarter of this one.

Looks to me like the lines on the obverse are simply die polishing lines, and the heavy Mark on the reverse looks like a scratch/crack on the holder. The NGC website looks the same to me as far as toning too, it's just the NGC pictures have different lighting.

The "Scratches" are die polishing marks on both the obverse and reverse and the toning is quite normal

Roosevelt dimes (especially high grade ones) are known for having really nice toning and this one is no exception. I also agree that those lines appear to be on the coin and not on the slab.

On a side note, a few years ago, I had a really nice toned Roosevelt dime In PCGS MS-65 or MS-66 that I bought for next to nothing at my LCS. I took it to the next show I went to and ended up trading it for a Morgan dollar.

I love the toning on this Roosevelt.

Most of my silver ones have the ugly brown / black toning.
