Hey everyone found this Wheat cent today CRH. I can't for the life of me make out the date. Thought I saw 1943 but probably just seeing things. I know the penny is pretty much junk so I was thinking I should just clean it to maybe help solve the mystery. Any guesses on what year it is? Should I clean it? Thanks for the help again!

I don't think cleaning that coin is going to hurt the value of it much.
If it were on ebay, it would be a 1914-D but it could be a 1918 or a 1948.

1949-D? It has acid damage so if you want to practice cleaning on it go ahead, you can't hurt it anymore.

once you've cleaned it, watch the color it goes back to, as it will tone rather quickly.

You should be able to use it as an example of what a cleaned coin looks like even after retoning.

The color is never the same as uncleaned.

Note that 99.9% of the time we don't recommend cleaning, but you won't hurt that poor cent.
Rest in Peace

As bad as the pitting is on this coin, I doubt you will be able to see a clear date no matter what you do to it.
