19? Copper Wheat Penny? Would You Clean It?

PennyPicker New Member United States 28 Posts	Posted 01/04/2017 10:03 pm Hey everyone found this Wheat cent today CRH. I can't for the life of me make out the date. Thought I saw 1943 but probably just seeing things. I know the penny is pretty much junk so I was thinking I should just clean it to maybe help solve the mystery. Any guesses on what year it is? cwb Pillar of the Community United States 3463 Posts	Posted 01/04/2017 10:21 pm I don't think cleaning that coin is going to hurt the value of it much. If it were on ebay, it would be a 1914-D but it could be a 1918 or a 1948. Report this Post to the Staff

moxking Rest in Peace United States 17900 Posts	Posted 01/05/2017 07:55 am once you've cleaned it, watch the color it goes back to, as it will tone rather quickly. You should be able to use it as an example of what a cleaned coin looks like even after retoning. The color is never the same as uncleaned. Note that 99.9% of the time we don't recommend cleaning, but you won't hurt that poor cent. Report this Post to the Staff
