hello all
I pretty much buy graded coins because it stands to reason that I will get a real coin, not some counterfeit. anyhoo, I was goofing around and came across several companies which offer to put "stickers" of various colors, in order to "prove" they were: 1. graded properly or 2. undergraded (and therefore the coin COULD be considered the next grade up (that is, if you get a "gold" sticker. if you get no sticker, they think that your coin was over-graded. HA seems to believe in the cacoin one. THESE SERVICES ARE FOR COINS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN THIRD PARTY GRADED (I do not know their stand on individual graded coins tho). ok, here is the propaganda...
http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-co...ickers.html#http://www.caccoin.com/http://wingscoins.com/cac only works with old coins. wings works for the more modern coins it appears. green sticker with cac, silver and gold stickers for wings (I think)
I guess this is one way if you think you got a raw deal on the grade (and who doesn't from time to time), instead of cracking the case and going through all that grading "hassle" you just submit YOUR ALREADY GRADED COIN to one of these companies and "go for the gold" haha.
stories abound in the sites about some coins getting thousands more when being sold, and also stories that it makes no difference.
during all my hunts, I saw only one (out of many thousands) of coins that had a "wings" sticker on it. I had to message the guy to find out what that meant.
so is this something real, or are these folks playing off of those who think they got their coin undergraded from their
TPG? or is this industry that was born out of the inconsistency and controversy about the
TPG standards and/or methods, or, just plain
TPG mistakes and the differences between them?
btw, they say if they think your coin is crap (overgraded to begin with), they put no stickers on it so you won't feel bad. personally, if there is to be companies like this they should have a sticker that means "man, is this coin over-graded or what? but then again, you pay them for this "service" so they at least have to be nice to you.
personally, if nobody knows about these companies or what they do, what is the use of going through them at all? ever see an HA coin with a cac "green" sticker before? not me.
well, I guess this might be one way to get around the meany 2 major
TPG companies, go with a lessor-reputable one and get a sticker, right? no?
one thing I can't quite figure out is how they can make the determinations without cracking the
TPG plastic case.
sorry if this is old-hat stuff to you vets... mike
