Rocky, it's a pretty cheep camera also. There odd Sony IMX179 inside and now it cost less then $100.
I think with DSLR I can achive such result of high magnification by many hundreds bucks only.
Then need mach more lights and magnification what will pressure image to difraction debris.
The cons of my setup it's not such big resolution as true DSLR, but for internet it's good.

I've been looking for a decent C-mount camera but have had little luck with them. Can you tell us what camera this is? Does it have decent capture software?

Justwalking you know this is just a modified webcam right. we used them in air patrol. the engineers in our company converted them into. what we called pipe camera. if you got the right model. they will make one incredible camera. you have a very good one. these are the same as usb microscopes they are converted webcams.

Rocky, yep, you are correct. This sensor offten used in CCTV surveillance camera. It was popular around 2012/13 years. But I prefer HDMI for that kind of use.
As for today for the real scientific microscope there more advanced sensors with more resolution and sensivity and also very small size.

Soon my microscopic objective will show me moon dust lol
It's shot from 300(!)mm from the coin.
Coin is about 22mm. You can see the DOF

Justwalking....I'd like to see that last full coin shot with the coin flat and perfectly perpendicular to the lens/objective. Curious to see if there would be any diffraction related effects on the picture. Can do?

Also, is there a manufacturer tag or box for that camera? I'm intrigued by this setup.

I can do it but tomorrow, OK? There nothing inside Zero if perpendicular, but there another one effect in different angle )
As for camera - it's exact name is ELP-USB8MP02G-MF40
it's more about lens attached to camera on fabric which you will remove.
Main thing is IMX179 sensor

Justwalking...the adapter that you use between the camera box and the helicoil....is the c-mount male or female and is the M42 female side M42x1 thread or M42x.75 thread? I have the helicoil, the RMS adapter, and other objectives already for a different setup I have.

I may build one of these...all I need it the camera box and the c-mount adapter. Camera can be had from Al1expre55 pretty cheap.

All that camera have c-mount female connection, so you need adapter from C-mount male to m42 female. I made it myself from c-mount 5-mm ring and m42 extension ring with epoxy glue.
Then m42 helicoid with one m42 male and other side m42 female (standart) and last you need m42-male to RMS adapter. In my case it's also selfmade M42 to c-mount and c-mount to rms.
Note that helicoid on my pic is too large for whole coin shot. It must be very thin as possible (12-19 mm) or may be whithout heliciad at all if want to work with big coin.
Good luck with project.

For fun, I was playing around with trying to get decent high mag shots. Attached pic is using my T6i camera with extension tubes, a helicoid, and a 10x generic microscope objective. If I could stack, it'd be alot clearer.

For my needs, it works. May have to forego a cmount camera for now unless I get adventurous later on and want to get one. About $80 for one on ebay with the sony sensor.

I have an autobellows that might get me in closer, but then stacking would be a must.
Thanks for the look.
