Having resumed my search for 2016 50p coins I've been amazed how much they have gone up in value since I last went looking for them and 2015 coins

Kew seems to be nearly £100
Suffragette and WWF (still readily available) already go for £3
2011 Olympic football is more than £5
I picked up a 2009 Olympic coin last year for £9 and now they are over £40

Similarly the dateless 20p has kept going north

I'm amazed my little pocket change hobby is making money!

Are there any other ones I've missed?

Happy days

Hi there allthe2ps!

I've sold a Jemima Puddle-Duck for £2.45, a Mrs Tiggy-Winkle for 80p and a Battle of Hastings for 95p on ebay. I wasn't seeking to make money - I was just amazed at the ludicrous prices some other eBayers were asking, so I put them on with a starting price of 50p plus postage, and waited to see what would happen!

Since Christmas I've sorted through 850 50p coins, and this is the analysis so far:

Definitive coins:
1997 275
1998 41
1999 15
2000 14
2001 56
2002 15
2003 22
2004 31
2005 25
2006 31
2007 11
2008 Britannia 7
2008 Shield 12
2012 41
2013 13
2014 61
2015 Rank-Broadley 30
2015 Jody Clark 46 (Total: 746)

Commemorative coins:
1998 NHS 1
1998 EU 2
2000 Libraries 3
2003 Suffragettes 1
2004 Roger Bannister 2
2005 Dictionary 10
2006 VC Soldier 4
2006 VC Medal 5
2007 Scouts 2
2010 Guides 3
2011 WWF 2
2011 Olympics 10 (Archery, Basketball (2), Boxing (2), Canoeing, Equestrian, Goalball, Table-Tennis, Weightlifting)
2013 Ironside 4
2013 Benjamin Britten 6
2014 Games 2
2015 Battle of Britain 5
2016 Team GB 6
2016 Battle of Hastings 21
2016 Jemima Puddle-Duck 4
2016 Mrs Tiggy-Winkle 8 (Total = 101)

Others:
1997 Jersey 1
1997 Guernsey 1
2015 Isle of Man 1 (Total = 3)

The Battle of Hastings total is skewed as I had one bag that contained 17 in BU condition, which means that probably the bank had received them in a new sealed bag, broken it open for change and then transferred the remaining coins to another bag where they added three random 50p's to make up the total.

You can tell that the Olympic coins have been extensively hoarded. With a total mintage figure of 52,272,613, it should be as easy to find an Olympic 50p as a normal 2014.

I am a member of a Fifty Pence Coin Collectors Group on Facebook and because of the release of the Beatrix Potter coins, we have been seeing a bunch of new collectors who started with the getting the five coins in that series and have branched out to buying the coin hunt album for the 50 pence coins.

While the overall mintage of the Olympic 50 pence coins is high, there is not an even mintage of each coin. Football, Wrestling, Judo, and Triathlon have spiked as well.

Also the completer medal and album that Royal Mint sold have spiked as well.

Do we know if there is going to be a Royal Shield 50 pence dated 2016 for circulation?

Sorry - I don't know. I'm still waiting for my first Squirrel Nutkin and Beatrix Potter portrait 50p's...
