I am very new to the world of coins. Can someone tell me what is wrong with this coin. The edge is missing. Does it have a higher value?

This is usually referred to as MAD or Misaligned Die. Not usually added value unless some of the devices (lettering) is missing or partially missing.

Yours looks pretty cool though.

It's hard to say from the pictures, but that's what I was thinking too.
Rest in Peace

Could it have been encased unevenly, 180 degrees, flattened 6 o'clock both sides?

I would think that if it was encased we would see evidence of it on the obverse as well. Also, I think the devices on the top of the reverse would be flattened a bit too?

I don't know if it my PC or what but a lot of these images will not open in a new window in the enlarged sized - any body else having this problem? So if I just zoom from this page it gets too blurry.

Yes, it is some sort of rim damage. Likely, the result of being an ex-encased coin as mentioned before.

thanks everyone for your information. I'm not sure if the coin was encased. I have several that are and the edges appear to not be cut down on them. It seems like a lot of trouble to mess with the edge of a penny to encase it. Here are some other coins that I have. I'm so new to this that I assume this is what you mean by encased.
