How many different ones of these were produced. I have seen the Tommy Franks, Lance Armstrong, Jessica Lynch, and Kathryn Sullivan Eagles. I see reference to Ronald Reagan but have not seen one, also are these available in proof and ms. I can't find out much info online about them. Thanks for any help on this,

A little Googling reveals that these are just over-prints on Silver Eagles. I also found them on Kennedy halves. They sell these on TV and I found various websites selling them. I did not dig too deep but I did not see any definitive resource on the series. Here is a link to a Reagan:

Hope this helps,

I believe you are referring to the PCGS Signature Series, correct?

If that is the case, they are available in MS and PR and only in PCGS slabs since the parent company of PCGS, Collectors Universe, put this program together. I also see them for auction at Teletrade quite a bit under the header Silver Eagle Signature Series Here is a link from PCGS about the Lance Armstrong deal http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article4215.chtml

I saw a Lance Armstrong Silver Eagle "thing" recently.......the Silver Eagle was untouched and it was uncirculated, but in the clear plastic holder it included a signed autograped picture by Lance Armstrong. It was similar to a PCGS holder and the pic was very small......I don't remember the price on it, but it only mildly interested me for just a brief moment. They were "created" by a private mint or company and sold as "gift items"...I believe.
If what you're talking about has a "portrait" superimposed or "colorized" and then imprinted or "over-layed" actually onto the Silver Eagle....then in my humble opinion....that DE-values them greatly. I'm the biggest Ronald Reagan fan there is.......but as a coin collector I will NEVER buy a coin that has been "doctored" or "colorized" by a private Mint simply to make money. I "would" buy a U.S. Mint produced Ronald Reagan coin or commerative though, just don't like it when they take a U.S. Minted coin and "change" it for a money making endeavor.

I forgot to add that yes these are the PCGS slabbed coins. I looked at Teletrade and see they have a variety of them that sell anywhere from 26.00 to as much as 80.00 from time to time. Just wondering if the premium over the regular eagles was worth it. I think sometimes some of this stuff is just hype. Thanks for the help

Are they PCGS slabbed or Collectors Universe slabbed in PCGS shells?

That's a good question, I believe they are PCGS coins as some pictures show a certificate number. Not much info on them, I guess I will shy away from trying to collect them as market seems kind of thin. I like silver eagles but don't want to pay that big of a premium for some gimmick. Thanks for the help

Sorry for the confusion. When you said Silver Eagles I thought you were talking about the over-printed ones. The coins you are referring to, as best as I can tell, are not Silver Eagles but simply 1 oz. silver coins. The Lance Armstrong coin is a "Tour de France commemorative silver coin struck by the French Mint". I had not seen these before.

Thanks,

Jim
