What would you guess is the remaining silver weight to these coins to be?

I already emailed this beginner seller that these are not silver dollars as stated, but Walking and Franklin half's.

Well, on the brighter side, the seller changed the title and description to say halves instead of dollars.

As far as how much silver is left? Not enough for me to consider a melt value. I've seen items similar to these before and it is yet another way to enjoy numismatics (though I feel bad for the poor butchered coins). I hope Art doesn't see those. He'd probably want to buy them just to let them retire at his "Coin Farm".

As an aside, the s/h is way overpriced. The most it would cost to send these 1st Class is $1.19. This is a brand new seller, though, and I'm sure he'll learn that lesson on his own.

Hey collect- perhaps you could cut the eagle out of the reverse of your avatar coin- it'd make a great necklace!
THe seller in this case has my sympathy- just doesn't know coins. It's currently listed under jewelery- did it start out in coins?

I bought these in Florida I think in the late 70's. At the time I thought they were pretty neat. Actually at the risk of upsetting anyone - I guess I still do.

I have seen these in just about every form including Morgans, Peace, Quarter Eagles and just about everything else. They are quite neat in the detail. While I hate to see good coins get this treatment, it is better than seeing the melter.

Bill,
The goose is from the reverse of a Canadian dollar coin, I trust. What is the source of the elk?
And just so no one gets upset with you, here's a link to someone selling similar items to deflect numismatic outrage somewhere else:

Ironically this vendor doesn't have a cutout goose-but offers your elk. He also sells an Americana series and one based on 50 State Quarters cutouts.

This is the second mistake I've made on this forum. I really should know better. The animal in question is not an elk but a caribou and has been on the reverse of the Candian quarter since 1937.

Well Bill, looks as if that vendor I linked above made the same error- he calls it an elk as well. Thanks for letting me know- I was wondering why my web searches weren't yielding the answer with keywords "elk" and "canadian coin"

I know that there are a lot of people who think cutting out the design on coins is wrong, but they really do make beautiful jewelry.
