Looks to me like the ellipse is complete, with part of it along the end of the steps at the railing.

I googled ellipses Pete. I found basically three definitions. I think you're referring to the focal point of all the points in the plane? If so, I think you've got it.

Petes referring only to the part he circled on the memorial steps which would be pretty cool if it is a die crack-I trust your opinion Pete but I just can't see it clear enough to tell if it's actually a crack. What an odd area and shape if it is

The elliptical crack is in the area I have circled by an ellipse.

I am fairly certain that it is a crack (I don't know what else it could be). I found 4 of these in a roll of 95s. They all have the other chips, also.

I've seen a number of these over the years. I think cracks or a retained break. Same spot. Interesting find.
