very nice ground find! AU sharpness. Possible it might straight grade. Worth a shot.

Quote: If it's really an AU 50+ it's worth $350 or more! Not sure where you are looking up values but AU50 would be in the $160 range. Use http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml which is a little more accurate. also you can look at ones previously sold on ebay in that condition. the coin has nice eye appeal, well struck and although it may come back with a details designation, just imo, I could see it in the range $100 range and could go a little higher. Congrats on really nice find and to the forum. A great place to learn about numismatics.

I'm looking at the 2014 Red Book(yes I know it's outdated a bit) value of the small stars variety, which I believe this is.

Red Book prices are inflated and not accurate. nice coin, low AU grade here, maybe environmental damage

I'd call this an AU-50 details coin. I wonder if you have a video of you taking this from the ground? I love watching those on youtube!

Based on the pictures provided, that coin WILL grade without details.

use this as a comparison. Your coin doesn't have half the problems of the example I provided. Let me know if you want more pics.

Thanks for all the info and opinions... my coin does look as good as or better than the one posted above, IMO. I still can't believe the condition, considering it lived in the ground for over 150 years. Going to talk to a local coin guy about it soon, and see if he can add it to a batch going out for grading, which he's mentioned he'd do for us before. Don't want to pay for NGC "membership" for my one good coin...lol. I do not have a video, sorry! Just found it, stuck it in my pocket with the dirt still on it, then came right home to run it under some water. I was and still am amazed at the clarity of all the tiny details. Favorite coin find in 4 years of detecting! On a side note, I found two Seated half dimes in 2016, but this one takes the cake!
