I wouldn't dream of cleaning any of my silver coin finds! Also, any seated experts.. is this the large or small stars version? Makes a big difference in value. Trying to figure out if it's worth it to send in for professional grading. I won't sell it either way because I love it so much.

XF45. Nice early Seated dime find. Looks like it was dropped in the ground not too long ago. Cannot be AU in my opinion because there is no remaining mint luster.

Luster does not determine a grade. It helps establish if the surface has seen handling, but it certainly doesn't separate a EF from an AU.
Why details? I see nothing that would give this anything other than a righteous grade.
Yes, I would send this to NGC.

According to my grading guide an AU coin must have mint luster. Wear is the main determinant, but not the only one.

Very nice for a ground find. It has a good chance of grading problem free IMO. AU-50

I am at AU53 as well. Believe some twinkle of the special mint luster, IS in the fields of the obverse.
AU50, has, generally, been give to AU coins, but no luster.

the AU50/53 range would be my guess. an amazing dig! congrats! I think it has a better chance of getting a details designation than not due to environmental contamination. this can be seen when looking closely at the actual surfaces and devices which exhibit scratches and some minor pitting/corrosion.

OK, so worst case scenario... I get it graded and it comes back with a details grade. How does this affect value? If it's really an AU 50+ it's worth $350 or more! Please forgive my ignorance... relatively new to coin collecting. Thanks for all the replies and kind words. I'm kind of in love with this coin!

I say AU 50. It may come back details, but NCS conservation or ANACS conservation may help.
