Hello Aussie coin collectors! I am a collector in Korea and do not specifically collect Aussie coins; however, a old Aussie SF buddy of mine has extended the offer of sending me stuff. I have two questions:

1) Do AUS mints sell UNC rolls? If not, where should he go? If they do, how are the sell prices compared to actual face value? I ask this because I went to The Royal Mint site and couldn't find much other than commems and proofs/sets.

2) If I just have him send me a box full of random stuff, I would still be happy, but what are the chances of finding something nifty?

I love all coins and am excited to adding some Aussie stuff to my books.

HI - and welcome. If you search for - variations list - you will find quite a few lists of the coins worth searching for. There are plenty - some fairly easy to find - some very rare.
Good luck

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. I told him to send me a bucket of random aussie stuff, so hopefully I can find some neat coins.

to the CCF!

1. In South Korea, you just go to any branches of the bank of korea to get some UNC coin rolls at face value.

In Australia, you might get UNC rolls or coin bags from local banks.
A company called "Armaguard" takes care of Australian currency included coins.

I don't think you can get any UNC rolls from Australian Royal Mint.
Get some on ebay or buy some from local coin shops.

If you try to search such as "Coin shop in Melbourne", there are plntey of coin shops.

2. I don't recommend you "random stuff".
It is so hard to find good ones in random coins.

These random coin bulks are usually so cheap.
I think the buddy already checked all the random coins.

Australian coins are interesting and a fair number of commemorative coins disappear from circulation quite quickly. The color 2 dollar coins in particular are just hard to find in general. The Royal Australian Mint do release roll coins for special occasion, often at a high premium. Most coins often come in bags.

What really hurts is that the postage fees is absurdly expensive and the weight of Aussie coins in general are just too heavy, making postage very unfriendly. Honestly, imagine if you wanted a date run of all 50 cents coins plus commemorative but not including varieties...

I imagine that you are in Korea So Going to the bank and getting Australian coins to noodle is totally out of the question.
If you want the better grade coins the annual Mint sets are probably your best course of action.
These are readily available via ebay and all you have to do is shop around for the best price.
Before you buy ANY coins get yourself a copy MacDonald's "Australian Coins and Banknotes", It doesn't have to be the latest edition and it has masses of information regarding Australian coins in it
