I am looking for a good metal detector I have one now but, is a piece of ..... you know what. What do you folks use? what do you suggest I buy? I often follow my MD buddies in the field and catch nice deep fish that they walked right over the top of. Doesn't matter what other detectors are mentioned, MineLab of similar price will trounce them. Report this Post to the Staff
fistfulladirt Pillar of the Community United States 4333 Posts	Posted 01/16/2017 2:59 pm I currently own three higher-end detectors, White's DFX (which I no longer use), and Minelab's Explorer II and ETrac. The Minelabs are great coin shooters and I've dug hundreds of silvers with them. Minelabs aren't great gold detectors, but typically, I'm not a gold hunter. I'm thinking about adding the Garret AT Pro to my arsenal, it's been out for a while and is very popular. It's a good gold machine, is submersible, and gets decent depth. I'd expect to pay $400-$500 for a nice used setup. When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72 Report this Post to the Staff

The Morgan and Peace dollars that I've dug were no more than 3-4" deep. Big coins sink slowly - When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
