Hi,

This is my second attempt at coin collecting. The first was in the late 60's when I was a teenager. One of my "friends" stole my collection, so I had to quit.

I began this attempt a week ago. I became physically disabled and had to quit working. This endeavor seemed like it would cause the least physical pain. Plus, coin collecting is not completely alien to me. My goal is to supplement social security, at least in a very small way, by finding coins in bank rolls that I can market.

I wrote four pages of notes as I try to learn about Lincoln Pennies. I have a 60x magnifier ordered. I have gone through one of two boxes from the bank at this point. I found several cents that I believe to be broad-struck. Once I learn how, I will post the first picture and maybe someone will tell me if it is worth only one cent or more. I also have made one set of P and D's from 1988 to date and may add more of the older dates as the search continues.

I made a scale out of an emery board, string, tape, and two clothes pins to determine if the 1983's were the valuable copper variety. It works, but difficult to use. I will either make a different style or hope I can afford a store-bought scale someday.

Thank you,
Steve

Rest in Peace

Just remember two things - one is that the vast majority of what you will find is PMD and/or Machine Doubling. BUT - two years back, a major doubled die was discovered - in 1919 dimes. That's right almost 100 years after being minted and nobody had seen it in that time span.

Thanks BStrauss3, guidance, advice, and information is what I'm hoping to find here.
