This is a 1 Dam from the Mughal Empire of India. They were minted anywhere between mid 1500s to mid 1700s. I love these coins. Theyre hefty.
Hopefully this link can help you
ID it.

I'd actually guess 1 paisa (same thing as "dam") from the Suri dynasty (brief mid-16th century intermission in the early Mughal period). Looking at the pictures in the "Delhi Sultanate coins" thread, I'm guessing Sher Shah (1540-1545).

Of course, the date is probably well off flan, and I wouldn't know Arabic from chicken scratch, so I'm not very sure of the identification - it could easily be something completely different entirely.

Thanks very much for the replies, so it seems it definitely is a 1 Dam coin. The weight and measurements seem the same, it's in nice condition too. Can't find any that are exactly like it.

I just found this whilst searching that I thought was quite funny and interesting, "Watch Your Language lists the coin as one of the possible sources for the English phrase "I don't give a dam[n]#8243;, due to its small worth, but provides other sources as well".

So, in further determining the coin, am I right in thinking that the language is in 'Urdu' ?, or Persian?
Is this coin average circulated, or in better condition? It seems pretty good to me.

I would love to know the correct 'Shah' or ruler that this coin was minted under, I've looked through loads of posts and I can't find anything exactly similar, but the very straight line going through one side is similar to Shah Jahan coins, but I'm maybe hoping that because they seem rarer.

"Shah Jahan came to power in the year 1627.AD. Better known as the builder of Taj Mahal, he built coins of artistic beauty. Diversity and elegance of design make his coins impressive." - From http://goccf.com/t/93062

Thanks for the help and if anybody can further enlighten I'd really appreciate it :D

For those who may be interested, I've just been informed that it is indeed a One Paisa from The Sher Shah Suri Dynasty 1538-1545, Sultan of Delhi. The Suri dynasty was right at the end of the Sultanate era and followed then by the start of the Mughal era.

This coin is a mintless type and its catalogue reference is Goron and Goenka D926.

Many thanks for the help.
