I've had my detector for a couple of weeks now and I try to get out every day for at least an hour. I have found close to 450 coins plus some junk jewelry and other stuff. I have two silver rings of little value, a small silver pendant stamped .925, and a gold plated ear ring. Of all my coins, I have found over 350 pennies. I can tell what they are when I find them so I've been digging, but I am starting to discriminate them out, my back is starting to get sore. It's a lot of work for only $3.50. Has anyone else ran into this frustration.

I find a lot of places where there are just Cents. I assume that some one else has been searching the area and tuned out the Cents.
So far this year I have 823 Cents I have recovered from the ground. I have no problem digging them as it adds up over the long term. I dig everything so after 15 Pull tabs a cent is a welcome change.

I to have found places where there are nothing but cents. I'll dig them and take all I can dig. Everyone I come back with is one more that I have than when I got there. Yes they do add up. I'm up to 948 this year so far. It is alot of up and down but I learned to do more squatting then bending over. Helped my back out tremendously.

If pulltabs cannot be ignored because those signals could mean gold rings, keep in mind that the next penny you dig might be a 1909S-VDB or some other key date. If your back is starting to kill you, I can understand why you might be "discing out" the pennies. Would the Indian Head cent or older still signal as a penny? There are even guys who save their energy and dig only strong signals below a certain depth because they are looking for "older types" like Seated halves, etc. Do whatever feels most comfortable to you -- taking care of your body is first priority.

If I'm hitting a woodchip tot lot I recover all signals. If I'm working on a lawn or other nice grassy area I pass on most zlincoln signals. I don't want to leave too many spots and I can always come back again. Those cents add up.

Small coppers don't have to be Lincolns. And Money is money.

I agree dockwalliper. I dig everything out of wood chip play grounds. I feel better removing all junk metal out of there for the saftey of the kids, I've pulled some pretty nasty things out of playgrounds.

My worst problem with cents is that on my detector I can tell the difference between solid copper cents and copper coated zinc. If I know I'm going to be digging up a corroded post 1982 cent, it doesn't seem worth it to me. On the other hand, as every one has stated, they do all add up even if it is very slowly. I guess it's always better to get a corroded penny than a pulltab.

I'm starting to consider saving all the pull tabs and cashing them in for recycle value. It might end up paying off better than the pennies do.
