Quote: 6 know 1969... Probably a reference to the large date variety 10 cent 1969. (I imagine there are more than that though.)

Not sure what you mean by your title, but the quite common 1968 Philly mint dimes and the very rare 1969 large date variety are two different things.

yes wildflower you are right. but there is a link on the internet of 6 known Philadelphia 1969 Canadian dimes. this does not have anything to do with the 1969 large date. ok where would you get the 1968 its pristine certified.

Rocky, not sure where you see this but I notice a 1968-1969 reference to dimes. However it indicates the "six known" type was minted in Ottawa, has round reeded edge, (the 1968 Philly is squared) so by process of deduction that refers to the 1969 large date variety.

wildflower I will try to find that link. I would imagine there is probably lots of those philadelphia edges for 1969 or is all the 69 using that edge grooves. both dimes are pristine I was just wondering where would you get them certified

Until you research and find out exactly what you have, it would be a waste of money to have any common coin certified. The cost of the TPG cert would be far more than the coin(s) would ever be worth.

i have found another link. I read this statement but I dont understand what is the meaning. 1968-1969 - Ottawa Mint (Silver) Catalog Number: KM#72 Composition: 50% Silver 50% Copper Coin Mass: 2.33 grams Magnetic: Non-Magnetic Edge: Rounded (V) Reeded Edge Note: Only 6 (1969) Known could you explain is this statement. about the groove that goes down to bottom of the rim. I am wondering is this about the top of the reeded edge. any help greatly appreciated

rocky- I don't know where you got that link from, but the way I read it, there are 6 known 1969 SILVER coins.
The top line says 1968-69 Ottawa Mint (Silver) and all the specs are for Silver Dimes. As there were 70 million 1968 Silver Dimes minted, they don't mention that but they make it a point to say "Only 6 (1969) Known". I have never heard of these before but that is what I believe they are saying.
As far as the grooves go, both Ottawa & Philadelphia Mints had a flat top. It is the bottom of the grooves that are different.

thanks jimmy yes the ones I got are flat. that rounded one I photographed is of a 1969 nickel dime. I dont want to cut the 2 dimes out of the plastic. that I purchased they are both pristine. I have a chance to trade them for a high bust 1973 quarter that is mint. see how this goes, if get the large bust. I will post some images of that coin. again thank you

If you indeed have a '69 Philidelphia dime it is worth far more than a LB quarter.

DBM, I am assuming you are referring to the 1969 Large date not just any run of the mill 1969 philly dime
