I bank with Chase and they said that they cannot place an order for a box of halves. Is it only my branch or is this common?

This thread is 6 years old, it would be better off if you started a new one. But the answer to your question is that many banks have a policy not to order half dollars for customers, because the regional managers know that ordering boxes of halves cost them money (they literally have to pay a logistics company to deliver them) and most people who order them keep too little in their accounts to make it worth the cost.

Common. In general (at least here on the West coast), Chase does not like to deal with coins. Same for Bank of America.

My Wells Fargo branches have no problems ordering them.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
