It appears to be what is called a "Washington Success Token" or medal. There are several varieties...large, small planchets, reeded edge vs plain edge etc. They show up on ebay and in numismatic auctions frequently.

Value is dependent on type and condition. They are scarce but not "rare".

It's 20mm x 1mm.

It appears to have had a dotted edge (like a modern British 5p) but has mostly worn away.

Does that give any more clue as to which type it is or its value?

Thanks for your help :)
Rest in Peace

Almost thought it was a Nova Constello until I looked closer.

ebay sold will list a few that you should be able to compare to.

My guess on value at auction is somewhere between 50 and 100$. Check ebay "sold" listings to get an idea.

Was this coin released for a particular event/celebration?

And does anyone have any extra information about this coin - I'd be interested to hear of any details.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the CCF, "mate" ....

If you Google "Washington Success Token" using the quotation marks, you'll find a wealth of info on these.

There exist many copies of early colonial era coins, most of which were produced in the 1960's; this, prior to a 1973 law that mandated the replicas be marked as a COPY.

Most copies were not made of copper and will not pass the "ping" or "ring" test. Balance your coin on the tip of a finger and gently tap it with another coin. If you hear a sustained ring, your coin is more likely to be made of copper and genuine. Weights on these early tokens can vary, so you might take it to an area coin show and find a dealer who has some knowledge of U.S. colonials.
