Hello, all. I was sorting through a bunch of Indian heads I bought and came across an 1864 that felt and sounded different, so I weighed it. The only thing I can think is that it was struck on a dime planchet. Anyone seen this or know it's worth?

Corrosion has eaten some weight out of it.

Thank you. I was afraid that was an option.

If it was struck on a dime planchet it wouldn't be copper colored
Rest in Peace

I agree. However, the copper color looks like pure rust, and the darker areas look almost like a tarnished silver.

I have some pretty corroded IHCs that also have bluish toning that looks similar to tarnish. Yours looks to have some green in there that would be verdigris.

It would look a lot different if it were on a silver dime planchet.

Thanks, everyone. I'm just stepping off into the IHC world. I bought a lot of about 75 and have been going through them this weekend. A lot of good RPD's, 3-4 really nice copper-nickel, a 1909 S, and possibly the elusive 1888/7.

We would love to see pictures of the RPD's and the possible 1888/7!

Not good quality pictures, but it's all I have. Taking it to a trusted coin shop tomorrow. What makes me believe it is an 88/7 is moreso the die break that runs from the pillar of the D to the rim, and the Cud on the rim abover the E in UNITED. There is also a mark below the last 8 where the base of the 7 should be, and the outline of a worn mark above the last 8
