I found these guys in consecutive boxes. The first one definitely exhibits a larger incused area -- from the part in the hair to bottom of ear.

Second coin exhibits the same incused area, but to a shallower extent. Incuse is shallower, and stretches from part in the hair to middle of ear.

Top of coin seems well struck, with a light strike on the lower portion. Is it possible they came from the same die? I couldn't really find any markers on the reverse since they're not in great condition. Or I could be totally wrong and it could be PMD, but I'd expect a gouge that deep to expose copper.

They definitely could be from the same die. I have some LMCs in a series like that:

The first you posted would have been struck earlier then the grease spread out and left a shallower impression on the second.

That's what I'm thinking.

Edit: matching die scratches/markers (if present) would determine if they are indeed from the same die.

Best way to tell is to check the mint mark locations for an exact match. then you will know for sure.

Thanks, coop. The mint marks appear to be in the same location, and there is a gouge in the same area on the reverse on the left side of the tail junction. What do I call them, brother coins? And what are the odds they show up together 34 years later?!

Just two coins from the same dies. The first one looks like the grease is stronger on it. The second one may have been after a few strike with less grease on the die at that point. (Or it may have been wiped down)
