If I have to chose between the two, it would be the 1847. I also need the no motto one for my type set, but not for $500 in that condition.

1847 = XF-40 details, cleaned
1872 = AU-50

Both look cleaned to me.

1) EF-40 Details.
2) AU-50 Details

I also think both would come back with a details designation. sorry but I would pass unless you will be happy with that.

I like the 1847 over the other. XF-45 Obverse looks nice. Would love to see it in hand.

As a few others have said - I would wait. Do not rush to simply fill a hole in the set. Many (myself included) have done that and regretted that decision.
