I have noticed that not too many kind remarks are made on the forums in regard to Littleton Albums. My question is why? What is it about them that makes them not so good.

You may guess that I have a couple of Littleton albums, and am wondering if I should replace them.

Hey now, Littleton sells coins that are generally overgraded by a few points, overpriced by a few bucks and.... OK I concede amac is right.. : ) I don't care for the albums because I had a nice red set of Lincolns from 59 to date, they are now a brown set.

Dansco and now Intercept Shield are the accepted albums of choice. All others are fair I would even give a nod to Whitman Book shelf albums as acceptable.

They charge crazy prices on their so called quality coins. Last time I checked it was $50 for a common date morgan in VF!

Hmmmm. I had a set of SAC's in the Littleton "archival" album and those SACs started toning like nobody's business. It's interesting to read the comments here - I just wrote it off because I've heard that SAC's tone real fast (and I still believe that to be true), but they really got brown quick in the Littleton.

Interesting. and thanks for the input. Any particular reason why tarnishing or toning is faster? Don't all the albums have openings with clear slides over the openings?

I guess what I am asking is: Are the Danscos and Intercept Shields constructed in such a way as to make them airtight? Or is it in the materials themselves? I have an almost complete set of Washington quarters with most in AU or MS and am noticing a toning around the rims of a few.

Some coins will still tone in dansco. And no they can not be made airtight.

I use Dansco and Intercept Shield because the quality is far superior. I own two Littleton albums and have moved my coins out of them and into other albums. I am not impressed with the construction. When you feel the cover and pages of a Dansco album vs. a Littleton album you will understand. Night and day.

I will sell my Littleton albums if anyone wants them.

Dang ! I just recently filled 5 archival type littleton folders (1959-1998) with all of the really nice stuff that I had pulled out of 12 fed boxes of pennies. Most are fully red !! How long do I have before they go to red/brown?

i have a Littleton album for my ASE's and after only a couple years some of the coins are already starting to tone. in the future I'm probably gonna put them in Intercept Shield 2x2's or maybe their albums
