Yeah, dipped in what looks like battery acid, very pitted. Sure didn't raise date very well, I see unclear digits, probably gets its grade from reverse, still has details.
Hope didn't pay much, not impressive even for supposed over date.

Granted it is a scarce over date the fact that it has been altered to reveal the date with nic a date or acid you should pass. This would work for a collector looking for every variety of Buffalo nickels like the 16 DDO and 1914/3

I doubt it has been deliberately been acid treated to restore the date, but it has been in a corrosive environment. I'm also not convinced it is a 18/7 D.

The other acid date Buffals I've seen only had the acid in the date area. Maybe this overall treatment is something new to hide what has been done to the coin.

As one who has chemically restored something north of 50 of these things, I don't think this one was chemically treated to bring up the date. The pitting on it was probably darker at some point in time and something (something harsh) was used to to mitigate that. I do believe it to be an 18/7. The backwards leaning mint mark is very consistent with an overdate. "Liberty" looks to be too strong to be a 1913.

Regardless of what the date is, I'd pass on this one. I'd be ashamed to have it in my collection

You can see the discoloration at the date indicating acid date treatment.
