ray I have purchased a damaged mitutoyo lens. I have to remove rear element from the lens. I have already done this. I have found a company that will sell me the glass I need. ray what need is what is the name of the tool. that I can measure the thickness of the glass I have to buy. it has to measure in the thousandths. there is a gentleman that will mount the glass in the real element spacer for me. can you help me with the name of that tool.

rocky...do you mean a micrometer? Or possibly dial caliper? Both do essentially the same thing...Ray

glass I have to buy

Is the rear element in your Mitutoyo 5X flat? If not, won't you have to grind your glass (of exactly the right composition) into the proper shape before mounting it?

i spend 2 days on the phone. I talked to reps and engineers. in Canada, United States. Japan, and the United Kingdom. Mitutoyo does not repair these lens. I was put in touch with a retired employee. that had lots of spare parts. He no longer has any spare lens elements for the end of these objectives. the one thing he did was tell me to contact this company. they may have a solution for me. I figure why not try it. other wise all I have is a paper weight. so if this does not work people need to know. if the lens is damaged beyond use leave it. if this fix works well than there is a chance. one might be able to restore them. the one thing the company told me is this lens is a 200mm tube lens. there glass may change that distance to 190mm to 210mm. I think, works for me.

here are the images of this lens damage. I found out I have one more option. lens polishing, I will send the images this evening to a gentleman in the USA. if he can he is saying he can polish the lens smooth. this will not effect the lens performance.

rocky...have your guy do the absolute minimum amount of polishing. Most likely just a little will clear 95% of the usable area. Tell him to just do a light surface polish with his finest grit...Ray

i got message back to small to polish. I have also received a message from another company. I can purchase a replacement element slightly different shape. the element is not cheap to have the same resolving powers as the original. plus special coating. I would still have to get the old lens out of its holder. then get the other lens installed in the holder mount. special adapter would have to be made to accomplish installing the lens in this mount. the cost is about the same as buying a lens. well tried I know have 2 paper weight 5x plus 10x mitutoyo
