Am I the only one who sees obvious hairlines?

My first impression was that the 2 of date looks , ummm, funny, too high placed. Now no expert by any means, the only seated lib $ ever seen hands on is my 1864 very obvious cast copy, where its date is soooo wrong, the 64 is wrong font! Maybe why I'm seeing this, might just be normal?
Rest in Peace

Nothing as bad as you made it sound. Not one I'd bid on, but one I could see getting some reasonable bids.

PCGS has slabbed fakes. At least this coin is genuine.

I don't this one was cleaned abrasively. Dipped, yes. The hairlines are probably from rubbing against another coin. There aren't enough parallel hairlines for me to call it cleaned from the pictures.

Now, how did the graffiti behind the eagle's head get past PCGS? There is an obvious carved X.

I see it as original.
And the lines don't show until you go to Full Size.
And they are too random; they look like handling marks.
That's overkill; too much magnification.
The TPG's don't go that far.
You use that magnification on a Proof 70 coin and you'll wonder how it made 70.
BUT
I still have trouble see it as an AU-58.
AU-50 or -53 maybe.

It is blast white and over 150 years old, so it is not original.

TPGs like dipped coins though.

Still apparently market-acceptable. I don't mind it.

Thanks for all the replies. I will get command over these slds someday. Ask for opinions and they come in all over the map. I understand why these are one of the most frustrating and rewarding serious to collect. Eventually I will complete a set with original surfaces. Probably when I'm 80 years old and have a couple marbles rolling around.

Details cleaned coins look much worse than this, but the X is concerning. I wouldn't buy it because of the grafitti.

If you squint, it's really nice looking.
