I ran across this 2016-P MS Jefferson today going through some bank rolls. It has lines running from the inside corners of the eyes to the bridge of the nose. I would not have thought much about it if I had not found 20 more just like it in the 6 rolls. I thought it was a die crack after realizing it was not a one-off fluke. After close inspection under the scope, the lines appear to be incuse. Could this be a hub crack that put raised lines on the die? Ideas, thoughts welcome.

Could it be a die clash?

I believe it is a die clash of the bottom steps of Monticello.
There is an overlay on this site that shows the die clash in exactly the same place as yours:

Actually, yes it could be. I had not considered that yet.

Edited for clarification: It could be a clash. Also after you said that John, I noticed a line into the eye to the right. Jefferson's left eye.

Thanks for the idea John. I think you are dead on. It does appear to be a clash. I went looking for other related marks using the overlays from Mad Die Clashes. On the reverse, in and above the window to the right of the door is the outline of the edge of Jefferson's face. Also there are fine file/polish marks in the fields on both sides. I don't think there is much doubt left. Also the other coins like this that I have double checked have the same marks. Cool 21 identical die clashes in one roll hunt.

I might do that. I sent a message to Mike Diamond at Mad Die Clashes to see about verifying this as a clash. I can not find this one on the site. I also went back through the rolls looking for this specifically. I found 11 more. If this is verified, I will consider a contest or two.

Most of the time, when searching original rolls, if you find one error in there, there will be more of the same!

Nice find!

Sorry John, I had not looked at the thread in a while until Newbie234 posted this http://goccf.com/t/283935#2414091

No Mike has not responded. I still think the photos on this thread should be sufficient but I would send him one of them if he needs it.

That would be great if you can get it attributed. The first one I saw like this was one that CoinMasters posted a month or two back. Hope it works out.

Great pictures!!
