So when can we expect the circulating Canada 150 coins to be issued? My ebay searches are just showing silver issues.

I think around late February to early March. It takes the mint some time to get the dies for the coins to the mint and to start production.

I generally don't see the current years' circulation coins showing up in my change till around July.

I'd think they'd start being released with Canada day/150th celebrations.

The mint's website says they're to be released "in the spring". Once they do begun to appear if anyone's interested, maybe with young children in the family, here's a handy reference link that includes a description and background of each design and a brief profile of the artist. (It opens by clicking or tapping each coin). http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/learn...ion-11100012

The 2017 uncirculated set which has the MY Inspiration contest designs is set to be released March 7th. I would suspect the coins will circulate shortly after.

That makes sense. Thanks TheCoinHunter! The link I pasted comes with a short story. During Canada's Centennial in 1967 I was still in Elementary School but I distinctly recall my dad patiently explaining the symbolism behind each of Alex Coville's designs. It really impressed me at the time that there was anything more interesting to coin than how much it would buy. Therefore I'm going to do what's commonly referred to as "Pay it forward". I'm going to make a special effort to share the story behind the significance of each the 2017 coins with the young people in my family. I thought this might be something others might find rewarding and enjoyable as well.....

Thanks for the thread. Here is what I found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2017-Canada...262874947107Thinking to myself that my fifteen-year old could profitably become a coin roll hunter for a few months, then gainfully self-employed (via E-bay)during the summer. Dad would capitalize this venture without risking capital! Any thoughts on the logistics or pitfalls of this endeavor? Not old enough to remember the 100th anniversary, but I was there!

Looks like I'm doing research. So far I've received some blank looks at the bank r.e., Canada 150 coins -- but they do have lots of coins for sale there. According to the teller I spoke to at my local branch the bank does not get coins shipped to them directly from the mint. Customers deposit coins at the bank. Unsure how accurate this info. is, but is what I have so far. Lastly, early indications are that the commem dimes are wrapped in clear vac sealed plastic, like the ones Brinks uses. Saw a vendor on the Bay displaying one. That's all for now.

@ headlessone. I can understand the blank looks. Your local bank teller is correct, banks definitely don't get new coin handed to them by RCM. For the sake of simplicity, think of coin as a recycled commodity. Only when a shortfall exists - more coin is going out than is taken in deposits - does a branch buy more coin from their centralized currency department who if their supply is low, orders it from the Bank of Canada. Coin is minted for the BofC by RCM, the reason mint was created. Even when individual bank branches run short and require more coin to top up their cash holdings, whether they receive new rolls of coin or recirculated rolls of previous years coin from their currency department cannot be predicted or controlled.

One can expect these 150 coins to be like a Lucky Loonie, the RCM will send these coins out to all banks at the release date, they should be easily available by the rolls eventually

Quote:One can expect these 150 coins to be like a Lucky Loonie, the RCM will send these coins out to all banks at the release date, they should be easily available by the rolls eventually John, RCM does "send" coin to all banks, or any banks for that matter, if that's what you mean. If you were to walk into a branch and ask a teller when they're expecting their Canada 150 shipment from RCM, you'd certainly get a blank look. Depending on location, I think sometimes it's easier to find new coin at big box stores who generally give more coin than they take in. Often they're serviced by Brinks, who as I recall, also buys coin directly from BofC.

Hmm. Interesting. I wonder if anyone might know whether or not the mint uses standardized wrappers for their circ. coinage? The "special" wraps are easy to spot, but I wonder about the run-of-mill? Is everything in clear plastic, or just dimes, for example? Thanks to both Wild and John.
