Hi, I recently discovered a Canadian coin, on the obverse, the inscription Victoria Dei Gratia Regina and the image of Victoria looking left. On the reverse is a strange design resembling an "S" superscribed over a "C".
Although the coin is in quite good condition, no where is there a date of denomination apparent.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Without a picture, I'd say it was a love token. Shaved on one side to be inscribed with initials. These usually come in silver but copper examples occur.

Very interesting. Thanks for the reply. I got around to scanning the back, so you can see for yourself. It does seem to be abnormally thin.

That's what it is. Such designs (love tokens)are usually found on Victoria dimes but larger denominations also were used. Still very collectable.

Nice love token. I used to have a fair number of these, but sold most as I focus my collection some. I still have a couple to sell off that I just found. They are definitely a nice collectible field.

@scrump, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes you have a so-called love token also. Third, for next time, it is considered best practice to create your own thread to post a coin rather than hijacking someone else's. It isn't a big deal, but I just wanted to let you know.

Spence, just a comment. Best practise on many other forums is for common topics to share the same thread rather than becoming fragmented so I'm guessing Scrump thought he/she was doing the right thing by reviving an existing thread. And Scrump to CCF!

I've seen those at flea markets. One vendor told me these are dimes turned into tokens and he does the same to make worn silver coins into various types of jewelry.
Cheers!
