I'm seeing a V, but not much else. Could also be corrosion/wear marks.
Rest in Peace

IMO there's plenty of detail remaining in the stems.
To me that suggests there should be some VDB remaining.

The designer initials were part of the master hub design. As such, there is no allowance for positional variation and the area you have marked is most definitely off center.

Biokemist, I had the same thought yesterday night, but I checked coinfacts for VDB cents, and the initials are not centered on the reverse. The circled location would be accurate.

I can see the V, I think? Maybe it looks better with coin in hand.

I see the VDB. Is it in the right place or not?

I don't see it personally, but it probably doesn't matter since no one would give you VDB money for it.

To my untrained eyes, VDB is in the right place. Reference picture: http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/2423. If you want VDB money for it, you'll likely have to have it authenticated.

I see what may look like a D & B but they sure weren't minted with the coin.
Rest in Peace

Hey Capt! I don't see what all these others do...here's what I see: to the right of your third circle "appears" to be another (?) Something. Now turning upside down, I see what appears to be AME--. I'm pretty sure this is an illusion of some sort, caused by corrosion, dirt, wear, handling (of 105+ years).
with Kanga, not enough wear, more would be visible and yes, the initials were off center, but not that much,@ 1 letter's worth shifted to the left.

Besides which folks, did I miss seeing an obverse pic of a 1909 cent, or description of such?

Clearly we'll never agree, makes no difference anyway.
